Two of My Favorite Things: Public Relations & Craft Cocktails

Apple Harvest Vodka Cocktail for Fall

Because I am a public relations practitioner by day and a cocktail blogger by night, I was invited to speak at the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association trade show in Orlando. The topic was none other than “how to leverage mixology to reach your cliente”.  I got to talk about two of my favorite things: PR & Drinking!

While I felt confident speaking about my subject, I was concerned about having to not only create a drink, but make it in public and actually serve it. I am so fortunate to work with Laura, a fellow publicist,  who specializes in liquor brands. (Why? Why? Why? Why didn’t I think of that as my area of expertise???) One of the brands that Laura works with just so happens to be one of my new favorite vodkas, American Harvest Organic Vodka. Not only did she hook me up with plenty of samples but she introduced me to Mixologist Extraordinaire Alexander Barranco from Tampa.
Mixology and Public Relations

Alex is the real deal when it comes to mixology. My requirements were that he make something delicious and that would take time to demonstrate.  I had 45 minutes to kill,  no one wants to hear me babble for that long! Alex developed the perfect craft cocktail and was so entertaining that I really think we could take our show on the road.

Since I know you’re here for the drinks and not the lesson in public relations I’m going to cut to the chase and share with you the amazing cocktail created by Alex.  He called it an Apple Harvest. Thanks to my friend and fellow blogger, Cristine Struble, who stayed to watch our presentation and took these photos. (Although, I know she really stayed for the drink and not me!)

APPLE HARVEST by Alex Barranco

2oz American Harvest vodka
1.5oz Unfiltered Apple Juice
.75oz Fresh Lemon Juice
.75oz Organic Honey Syrup
.25oz Fresh Ginger Juice

Pour all ingredients into a shaker filled with ice.
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and Apple slice

And because I’m not good with descriptions other than “holy crap that was delicious!” I borrowed a description for the vodka brand:  “Clean, delicate aromas and flavors suggest frosted fruit pastry, pepper, and vanilla cream with a silky, dry-yet-fruity medium body with a long, graceful dried fruit, powdered sugar and delicate spice accented finish. Very elegant and flavorful.” American Harvest Organic Vodka is handcrafted in small batches from organic American wheat, certified organic ingredients and Snake River water. Not to mention it received a Gold medal! Alex’s genius cocktail was the perfect blend of fresh ingredients that complimented the vodka for a magnificent fall cocktail.
And if you want a quick overview of my presentation, here are three rules I shared:
1. There’s Always An Excuse to Drink: Leverage those special days created just for us cocktail lovers (see my handy guide here.)
2. Shake Up Your Social Media Strategy: Content is king. Keep creating it and use Facebook Live and Instragram Stories for bigger impressions.
3. Get Buzzed with Influencers: Let us help spread your message!
And yes, I did have martini shaped cut out props! But for that, you’ll have to come see me next time I present.

I love the name of the drink. Great for fall and this time of year.
