Making Deals with the Weather Gods

UnCorked Beach View

I’m convinced that the organizers for the 6th Annual Clearwater UnCorked Festival made a deal with the weather gods. The festival held Dec. 2-3 on Clearwater Beach could not have had better weather. The skies were a perfect blue, the ocean was calm, and the sun was not blazing down. It was everything you could want for an outdoor event on the beach.

Besides the perfect weather, the event itself was also pretty flawless. Food from the area’s best restaurants, lots of cheese and dessert samples, craft beers, and wines. Not a stranger to festivals, I was pleasantly surprised on the above average serving sizes. We’re talking more than bite size portions of lobster mac and cheese, healthy size samples of low tide cheddar grits with spicy chorizo and gulf shrimp, and full pours of wine and beer. Now that’s a festival!

UnCorked Food and Drink Tastings

One of the things that was really enjoyed was the time the participating vendors spent with the guests. They were passionate about their offerings. You never seemed rushed and they all had a story to share. Stories from why they created a certain dish, what wine pairs best with what and, of course, where they are located to buy or make a reservation. The lines moved at a nice pace. They didn’t seem to get too backed up. And if they did, I didn’t notice. Perhaps that’s due to the Mini Moet bottle which you received at the beginning of the event.

This event is not just for foodies and wine connoisseurs. It’s for anyone that wants to have a fun day tasting great food and drinks while walking on soft white sand. And yes, some of us (meaning me) might have taken their shoes off. There were presentations from the chefs throughout the day which I wish I would have taken advantage of more of them. And they had a whole lounge area with beach chairs when you needed to put your feet up and soak up some sun before going around again.

And if you were lucky enough to participate in the VIP area, you could find amazing craft cocktails from Titos, Jefferson Whiskey, Belvedere, and Patron, just to name a few. Needless to say, after having our fill of food, this is where we spent the remainder of the day. It was right across the beach at the Wyndham Grand pool deck. A perfect place to enjoy a Patron Popsicle and a Tito’s Cranberry Mule cocktail.

They ended the event there with a bagpipe song and lots of good cheer.

Clearwater is a great town to visit with beautiful beaches, great restaurants, shopping, and lots of live entertainment on the water. If you’re going to go there, and you should, try to plan it around UnCorked. It’s a festival you won’t want to miss.

Visiting a Food & Wine Festival is an amazing way to try new flavors. When there are so many new options you don’t feel guilty about having a sip or a bite of everything. It’s a great way to discover something new – or rediscover something you haven’t had in a while. Definitely a fun event.

I have been seeing the Moet splits with the tops on them for a few weeks now! Love that is cuts down on dishes (or plastic cups) and gives a little souvenir to take home!
