The Disappearing Rum Act

Full disclosure – we were sent, and very happily accepted, a bottle of Botran Rum. Because we are amateur mixologists, I asked for a couple recipe recommendations. While the three they sent over looked delicious, we just didn’t have all the ingredients. And well, we had company in town and didn’t feel like making a run to the store. So naturally, we improvised.

Before turning the rum into any cocktail concoctions, we decided everyone should try it on the rocks.

The general censuses was positive. The rum lives up to its description of being bold and full-flavored. And that’s coming from all six of us! So that’s like 6 stars.

Next, was my attempt at their recommended Pina-Ta.

Super easy if you had Rosemary syrup. But alas, I just had rosemary. So, the recipe was almost the same….. rum, lemon juice and pineapple juice. Although, who makes fresh pressed pineapple juice? That sounds like a ton of work when we had fresh pineapple juice from the market already. The drink was delicious. And looks as cool as their promo photo, if I don’t say so myself.

Now, I will note…. As I am writing this, I looked up how to make rosemary syrup. It’s so simple. I should have taken the time to do it before my guests arrive. Anyway, moving on.

Robert is the King of Stiff Drinks. So he decided to make Mai Tais. There is a famous bar here in town (Sarasota, Fl) called the Bahi Hut. They have a two drink maximum. Locals lovingly refer to it as the Bye Bye Hut. I’ll just say this – they got nothin’ on Robert’s skills.
Mixing Mai TaisJPG
Here’s his secret (per drink):
3 parts rum
2 parts pineapple juice
1 part orange juice
splash of cherry juice
He poured the rum in the glass with ice. And then mixed the juices together and added it to the rum.

Botran is ranked among the Top 10 Rum Brands in sales, as well as the 10 Top Trending Brands by Drinks International Magazine. We can see why. Our bottle was finished in one day. I did mention there were 6 of us, right? I don’t want mom worrying too much about us!
