Tequila for Thanksgiving? Why Not?!

Sure, tequila is a natural fit for Cinco de Mayo or Day of the Dead, but it’s really too tasty to sip only a couple times a year. If you’ve sworn off the spirit altogether after a few too many shots in college, trust me—today’s silver tequilas and aged reposados are nothing like you remember.

Why not shake up your Thanksgiving dinner by serving a couple of tequila drinks with your turkey and stuffing? I recommend greeting guests with a refreshing cranberry orange margarita, then finishing the meal with a decadent pumpkin pie tequila-infused martini. Not only are these cocktails delicious, but they’ll take the edge off of any awkward pauses or tense interactions—and isn’t that what most family gatherings really need?

Cranberry Orange Margarita
Cranberry Orange Margarita

  • 1 ½ parts Sauza Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
  • ½ part triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 4 parts cranberry juice
  • 2 parts orange juice
  • 1 fresh orange
  • ½ cup frozen cranberries
  • 2 tbsp. sugar

Preparation: Zest the fresh orange with a zester or spice grater to remove just the peel (and none of the pith), then combine the zest with the sugar.

 Cut the zested orange into wedges. Rub a wedge of orange around half the rim of each of your glasses. Roll the glasses through the sugared orange zest.

 In a shaker, combine the remainder of the sugar and orange zest mixture with the cranberry juice, orange juice, tequila, orange liqueur, and any juice you can squeeze from the zested orange. Top with frozen cranberries (you can also add in a long slice or two of zest from an additional orange if you have one) and serve.

Sauza Pumpkin Pie-tini

  • 1 ½ parts Sauza Blue Reposado 100% Agave Tequila
  • 3 parts cream
  • ½ part Torani Pumpkin Spice Syrup
  • 1 part simple syrup
  • ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp. cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • Whipped cream and cinnamon for garnish (optional)

Preparation: Shake all ingredients vigorously with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Top with whipped cream and cinnamon (optional).
