My Anaconda Don’t Want None…..

Ice Ball Maker Mold

Ice is a very subjective thing. Robert loves it. Me, not so much. So when we traveled to Philadelphia and the mixologists were using one big ice cube in our drinks, I got hooked. I went to Amazon.com and ordered molds to make my own.  I’m a huge fan of Amazon Prime with the free 2 day shipping. Instant gratification. There were more than 100 options priced from $6 – $25. I went for a middle priced version from Arctic Chill getting 4 for $15.95. They claim to keep your drink cold up to 10 times longer….who drinks that slow??? They are made of silicon, offer a lifetime guarantee, can go in the dishwasher and are BPA free. Found  here.

As soon as they arrived I washed them, filled them with water and put into the freezer.

They are fairly easy to get out. And they are BIG. Like giant. At first I thought they were too big. They fit into the glass but didn’t leave much room for the actual drink. The size of the cube was 2.5 inches. When going through the different options, 2.5 seemed to be common. I did find some that were slightly smaller and others that were the size of golf balls. Those would be a great gift for Robert! (So look for a future review on them in the near future.)

Then we figured out that the glasses we were using were not standard high ball glass size. They were only 8oz. No wonder they didn’t fit. When we got out our 12oz and 15oz size glasses they fit perfectly!

So the moral of this story is the type of glass you use is important. Because you definitely do NOT want to attempt to make them smaller by putting them under water. As my friend Lynn said, “My drink has a butt in it!.”

Gross.

The large square ones work pretty well also and when they melt they do not creat the ice cube butt!! Love reading your posts! Have some great seasonal drink ideas if interested!
