Faking a Bayou Vacation: 4 Rum Drinks on a Rainy Day

When it’s raining and gloomy outside, it doesn’t mean you need to bury your head under the covers and binge watch Netflix. (Although if you do, we totally recommend Bloodline.) Why not use the day as an excuse to make multiple drinks? DUH! Not that we ever need an excuse, but it did give us the perfect reason to try out a variety of drinks from Bayou Rum.

We invited our friend, John, over to join us and we tasted them on Facebook Live. Of course, as we began filming the rain stopped, but we didn’t let that stop us!

Overall, we are all now fans of Bayou Rums. Never hearing of them previously, even though they are the largest privately-owned rum distillery in the USA (and from my mother’s home state of Louisiana).  They sent us two of their four flavors: Spiced and Satsuma.

Their website has tons of great recipes. I printed some out to use as cheat sheets. No judging! It’s not easy. You try and make four drinks at one time – unless of course, you are a bartender.
In a nutshell, we all loved the Bayou Old-Fashioned, even if two of the three recommended ingredients were improvised.

BAYOU OLD-FASHIONED

– 2 oz. Spiced Bayou Rum
– 1 barspoon of Steen’s Cane syrup (we used simple syrup)
– Dash of Jerry Thomas Old Fashioned Bitters (we used Angostura Aromatic Bitters)

And my favorite, and one I made seconds shortly after, was the:

SATSUMA CREAMSICLE

1.5 oz Vanilla Vodka
1.5 oz Bayou Satsuma
1 oz  ½  and  ½
.5 oz OJ
.25 oz simple syrup
*Shake and strain into martini glass

Thanks to Bayou Rum for making our rainy day especially fun. Cheers!

The Satsuma Creamsicle looks like the kind of drink for me.
