Ultimate Drink Fail Making The Last Word Cocktail

There is an Instagram campaign going on with cocktail lovers to create their own version of a drink called “The Last Word“. I wasn’t going to participate for a couple reasons. The main one being it calls for Chartreuse, which is pretty expensive and I wasn’t sure I would use again. And secondly, I don’t ever intentionally make my own versions of a drink. It usually happens only because I don’t have all the ingredients on hand and substituting with something else, or like reason one above, I’m being cheap.

However, my friend Lisa of FunMoneyMom.com asked if I would do a Facebook Live with her and make a special cocktail. It seemed like a perfect excuse to make the investment for our bar. (Shhhh – don’t tell Robert, the other half of the Cocktail Couple!)

The Last Word, created in the 20s, is surprisingly easy to make. You wouldn’t think I’d be able to screw it up. I blame it on getting bad advice at the liquor store. But in their defense, I did ask for a substitute. Not for the Chartreuse mind you, but the Maraschino Liqueur. The sales guy said that all the cherry liquors tasted basically the same. I believed him. Not thinking about anything else. Here’s the link to the Facebook Live Video. I recommend watching it before reading more. It’s only a few minutes long.

SPOILER ALERT: If you skipped watching the video and went straight to here, you’re going to miss the expressions on our faces. The Last Word is supposed to be GREEN. Yes, cherry liquor is very red. Why that didn’t cross either of our minds is beyond me. I’d like to blame it on our alcohol intake, but we didn’t drink prior. I’m not sure I was in love with the drink either, but we sure had a good laugh. And the Green Chartreuse will be fun in other drinks.

Making cocktails is about the fun not necessarily the final outcome. You two have a great story – you can always make another cocktail

Hahah love it, sounds like something I would do!
Hopefully you can find some other uses for the chartreuse, you’re making me want to buy a bottle though!
